Thione Seck- Senegalese
musician and night club owner (Senegal)
Thione Seck is a popular Senegalese musician and club owner. Starting
out as a singer at the tender age of twelve, he gained reputation in the local
circuit in the late 60’s. When the Orchestre Baobob formed in 1970, a
singer who could blend the blustery power of great vocals with the swing of
Afro-Cuban music was found, and he continued to produce hits and entertain
fans. Grace found out more about Thione Seck’s music, business and favourite
things in Senegal. Seck spoke about his love for the diriyanke, the
beautifully robed and powerful women of Dakar and his frequent and sold-out
live shows. With his second international release in recent years, XV
Aniversary Live! getting a lot of attention, Seck may finally get the
respect he deserves.

meeting of minds between Africa and Europe. Not only does it give our dancers
and choreographers the opportunity to create an international network, it also
enables them to present and share highly creative and original work. Adaure was
there to learn more about this event. She caught up with group member of the Ebony
International Dance Company, a dance company with a vision of promoting
cultural values at home and abroad. This
festival gave choreographers from all of dance scenes an opportunity to

Little Ethiopia Restaurant/Maxi Priest
Gaetano visited Ethiopia, right in the heart of Washington. According to
the Ethiopian Yellow Pages in this area, there are more than 45 dining rooms
serving Doro Wot and Injera. First stop was Dukem, one of the most enduring
Ethiopian music entertainment landmarks in the district, offering great
Ethiopian music and the most famous singers DC has to offer. Next on Gaetano’s
list was hitting the streets to check local hang out spots. He got to find out
more about the colourful outdoor markets around Georgetown, Dupont Circle or
Adams Morgan and enjoy a great night life full of hip restaurants, bars and a
fantastic Jazz scene. He also visited Zanzibar, a club that caters
largely to DC's Caribbean and African crowd. He found out more about this
hot lunchtime spot with a menu that features African and Caribbean-inspired
food, offering both seafood and the popular Indies' flavours and operating as a
night club in the evening. It must have been Gaetano’s lucky day and
international star, Maxi Priest was performing on that day!
Jon, the Naija Sings Winner
Grace caught up with Jon Ogan, the winner of ‘Naija Sings’ during his
music video shoot. Jon who has signed with Storm Nigeria is truly talented and
going places! Nigeria's queen of Hip-Hop, Sasha, arguably the most popular
female musician of her generation, was on hand to offer great advice to Naija’s
latest star.
The ‘Naija Sings’ contestants had to perform Nigerian classical pop and
Afro Juju, as well as R&B and Motown classics. For Jon, performing an Afro
beat song was the greatest challenge. This 18 year 'baby-faced' singing
sensation from Abuja, spent weeks wowing audiences with his fresh sound,
confidence and effortless on-stage presence and talent, all the traits needed
to make it big!
Concrete future
Photo Exhib (SA)
Earlier this year, the KwaZulu Natal based concrete and cement company,
NPC launched the ‘Focus on a Concrete Future’ Photographic Exhibition to
enthusiastic amateurs, photography students and professional photographers. The
brief was to capture interesting, creative and futuristic images that celebrate
the beauty of the concrete world. Not an easy brief, but many snappers
responded to the task, making the most of the city’s man-made cityscapes,
buildings, bridges and structures. The Moses Mabhida
stadium has certainly raised aesthetic interest with its beautiful lines. Make
no mistake, cement and concrete CAN spark the imagination and be used
creatively in urban design and art!

Kevin has opened up to Emma about his step-mother
whom he described as “evil and mean”. Kevin said if that woman who tortured him
and his siblings while growing up is watching the BBA Revolution, then she must
be cringing from jealousy.
Emma listened with interest as Kevin went into the details of ill-treatment his
family received at the hands of his evil step-mother and he she starved them.
Kevin went on to say the woman he was forced to call “mother” hid food from
them, leaving them with no option but to steal food from their own house. He
says things got so bad that at some stage he would have only mangoes for
breakfast lunch and supper.
Kevin also told Emma that it was evident that his step-mother used Juju because
even their father turned against them, always beating them up for everything
she reported as bad behaviour by Kevin and his siblings.
He says because of this nasty treatment, his brother even contemplated
committing suicide.
Kevin says this miserable period in his life ended when his step-mother
abandoned his father after stealing money and all the household furniture from
him before she fled.
Who knew that the jovial and entertaining Kevin had
another side to his life.
Keep watching Big Brother as is draws to a close to
find out who will win the $200,000 prize money.
