MTN, sponsor of the FIFA 2010 World Cup to be staged in South Africa has formally launched its global FIFA 2010 World Cup Activation Plan at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra.
Brett Goshen, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN- Ghana reinforced the company's commitment to the FIFA 2010 World Cup and remarked that MTN's sponsorship of the tournament is proof of the company’s pride and belief in the African continent and what it is able to achieve.
He said "we at MTN are delighted as a company that is traditionally rooted in Africa and positioned strategically to provide excellent services in emerging markets, we would win the rights to sponsor a game that Africans adore".
He explained that MTN is passionate about its markets and the beautiful game of football and the FIFA World Cup provided the golden opportunity to fulfill that passion.
The Chief Marketing Officer, George Andah, expressed that MTN will package an unforgettable tournament for the enjoyment of football fans.
He pledged MTN’s support for the Black Stars and encouraged Ghanaians to do likewise to ensure that the team qualifies for the 2010 World Cup.
Commenting on the campaign concept, he said " we are using a number of significant African items including the calabash which is traditionally used to welcome guests into our African homes, we are welcoming the world to Africa, but even stronger is the recognition of the fact that we share One Spirit and One Game. That spirit which makes us create, challenge and share is what we are seeking to reinforce."
Launched in 1994, the MTN group is a multinational telecommunications group operating in 21countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East is the first African company to sponsor the FIFA World Cup which comes off in Africa in 2010 in South Africa.
