These were the words of the President in an interview with Radio Gold on Friday December 23 2012: “When this case first broke, I was in the US and I ordered the two ministries involved, at the Attorney General’s Department and the Finance Ministry, to give me a report, a report which I wanted to be published so that the world would know what happened.”
With this statement by President Mills told the whole nation that he had no idea of these payments and wanted a full briefing by his A-G and the Finance Ministry.
Yesterday, the boss of the Economic and Organised Crimes Office told the whole world point blank: President Mills is not in charge and a blatant liar. He gives orders and they are defied by his appointees.
He knows of the crimes being committed by his appointees and yet he comes out in the open to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians, to the effect that he knows nothing about what is going on.
Mr Akpadzi, the EOCO boss said, "What the facts have shown is that when the initial issue of paying Mr Woyome came up, His Excellency [the President] ordered the Ministry of Finance not to pay.” The EOCO boss says President Mills twice asked that Woyome should not be paid and twice that directive was violates and the payments were made.
So it has been established as fact that President Mills, first and foremost knew about the Woyome issue because he sighted the copies of the letters sent to his Chief of Staff from Betty Mould Iddrisu and Kwabena Duffuor. President Mills therefore lied to the people of Ghana when he said he did not know of the payments to Woyome.
The President’s statement to the effect that “I would not be criminally minded to order the payments” further indicates that President Mills knowledge of this whole saga.
Secondly, President Mills’ directive not to order these payments was flouted on two different occasions. Who had the power to defy the orders of the president? Was it Betty mould Iddrisu, the former A-G who negotiated the settlement with Woyome, or the Finance Minister Dr Kwabena Dufuor who made these payments?
This development reveals two things. President Mills is a liar and also not in charge. He is overseeing a corrupt administration where everyone can do whatever he likes because he [Mills] has absolutely idea what is going on.
He has created the unfortunate the impression that he is not in charge of the country and not up to date with issues of national importance.
Remember when President Mills President Mills, in an interaction with a section of the media upon arriving from the UN General Assembly, raised doubts about the claims by the Minority that the government had breached an agreement with the IMF on borrowing, President Mills stated that he was unaware of any agreement with the IMF that restricts Ghana on the amount of loans it can access in a year.
This was what he said: "I am surprised that people are putting a spin on this. They [IMF & World Bank] are very supportive. They know we need the assistance for infrastructure development. I haven’t spoken to the Minister of Finance, who would be the best person to sign such an agreement, I really don’t know their (Minority) source, so I cannot firm, or even deny….if there was any such development, it would have been brought to my knowledge.”
Enough is certainly enough! Ghanaians deserve better leadership and come 2012 we can remedy this situation by kicking out the NDC.
