CID SAYS KIDNAP AND ARSON SUSPECTS INDICT OFOSU-AMPOFO

The national chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has been invited by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service to assist in investigations into recent kidnappings and fire outbreaks in the country.

According to the invitation letter, signed by the director general of the CID, Commissioner of Police Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, the NDC chairman was mentioned by some suspects as being “part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country”.

Intelligence

“The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into cases of kidnapping and fire outbreaks in various parts of the country.

“Intelligence gathered indicates that some of these kidnappings and fire outbreaks are being orchestrated by various unidentified groups, persons and individuals.

“Some of the persons picked up for interrogation and investigation have mentioned your name as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country,” the letter added.

“As a result of the above information and intelligence, you are kindly requested to report to the undersigned on Thursday 9th May 2019 at 2pm to assist in our investigations.”

Leaked recording

In a leaked sound recording believed to have captured proceedings of a meeting with NDC communicators, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo is heard talking about how the party intended to employ “covert and overt tactics”, including kidnappings, to make Ghana ungovernable in the lead-up to the 2020 general elections.

The NDC national chairman is already facing charges of conspiracy to cause harm and assault against a public officer.
